One of the upcoming trends for 2018 is clear plastic seen in all manner of fashion. There has already been a splattering of the appearance of plastic in clothing over the years but it has now emerged even more so on the runway with designers such as Chanel and Balenciaga.
The use of transparent plastic in fashion emerged in the 60s with man-made fibres a new exciting concept to use and became a wonderful futuristic novelty to stand out and was seen primarily in dresses and raincoats.
Of course, there is always fetish clothing using synthetic fibres such as PVC and rubber which are a story all of their own but for this article, I am focusing on the sartorial aspect of this style.
Below are some amazing vintage examples of couture utilising plastic available to buy

If you aren't completely convinced of the clear plastic trend in clothing quite yet then why not start with some jewellery and accessories, both of which were also on the catwalk recently.
This trend has a 90s Y2K aesthetic to it and although some of these pieces definitely have a shock factor to them and are amazing if you want to wear an avant-garde outfit, it is still possible to add clear plastic in a subtle way if you go for raincoats and accessories. You can show as little or as much skin as you like. Have fun!
